In this lecture, we give a definition of planets and exoplanets, we describe methods of their detection –
transits, radial velocity, direct imaging, microlensing, transit time variations, we discuss formations of planets and protostellar disks, the creation of giant planets and their dynamics in systems. We also give basic information about the known exoplanets.
