Swope (1941) noted the variability of the star (outbursts). The star was previously classified as a possible U Geminorum star and SS Cygni-like star. Subsequently, Elvey & Babcock (1943) reported a continuous spectrum with strong Balmer emission lines, He I, He II, and [O III] lines.
