The object, previously considered as a southern planetary nebula, displays a continuum similar to symbiotic and VV Cep stars, as indicated by infrared photometry (Allen & Glass, 1974). Classified as an emission-line star by Stenholm & Acker (1987), the system's spectrum from Pereira et al. (2003) further confirms the presence of Hα emission line.
