In SIMBAD (Wenger et al., 2000), the nature of MWC 342 is mentioned as "unclear," suggesting the possibility of it being an Ae/Be star or a symbiotic binary. However, the paper by Kučerová et al. (2013) does not support the symbiotic classification for MWC 342.
