MWC 56 is included in the list of late-type emission-line stars in the paper by Allen (1973). According to the paper, these stars may be either symbiotic stars or heavily reddened objects. MWC 56 is considered the second case, specifically as a reddened Be star. We included this object in the database as the list of Allen (1973) was used by several researchers as a basis for confirming symbiotic nature.
